In 2008, the Board of Township Trustees formed the Anderson Township Economic Development Committee. This action was based on recognition of the importance of Anderson’s businesses to the health and vibrancy of the community, and was a recommendation of the Township’s initial Comprehensive Plan that was adopted in 2006.
Over the last several years the business leaders and residents that comprise this group have been involved in a variety of activities, including updating plans for the Township (in particular Beechmont Avenue), improving Anderson’s image including gateway and Five Mile Road improvements, investing in Anderson’s neighborhood business districts such as forthcoming changes on Clough Pike and Salem Road, and partnering with the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce to improve the marketing of Anderson and retention of businesses.
The Committee embraced a philosophy that the mission of economic development in Anderson Township is to protect the community’s assets by advocating for competitive services; retain existing and foster growth of new businesses; and facilitate quality development / redevelopment, and improve the retail, office, and industrial offerings in the community, which subsequently improve residential property values and stabilize Anderson’s tax base.
Current initiatives for the Committee include:
Updating the Beechmont Vision Plan between Asbury and Forest roads and facilitating the redevelopment of key parcels in this area. Conducting outreach to other areas to identify / bring specific users quality restaurants, retailers, etc. to the community, while also retaining and facilitating the expansion efforts of existing businesses.
Initiating design / architectural guidelines for Beechmont Avenue. Assist with the preparation of updated land use plans for the Township’s Ohio Riverfront and Ancor Areas.
